Line Edit
Line editing consists of suggested revisions for problem sentences, including passive voice, and plot and character inconsistencies. An example is that if one of your character’s eye color changes in the book, I would question whether this was intentional. I also cut unnecessary words to tighten writing and help the story become clearer. |
Copy Edit
This service covers correcting punctuation, spelling, and usage errors (for instance, who vs. whom), along with flagging grammar problems and suggesting revisions. I also flag items that may require permission to use due to possible copyright infringement and repeated words. |
Line Edit Plus
This service includes both line and copy editing (three passes). The first round consists of a line edit to take care of problem sentences and words (as described in the line editing section). After the author reviews the first round of edits, the second round covers any lingering line edits, along with copy edits. After the author reviews the second round of edits, the third round covers punctuation, spelling, and usage errors. This package offers a discount over purchasing line and copy editing separately. |
Developmental Editing
If you would like a more in-depth manuscript overview, this is a great place to start. Some questions you may be asking: Does my story flow well? Are my chapters in the best order? Are the characters consistent? Is the beginning hook strong enough? Is there too much backstory in the beginning? This type of edit will give you a feedback letter and minimal comments in the manuscript itself. |
Manuscript Evaluation
This service is helpful for authors who have received rejections but with no feedback on why. This project overview analyzes problem areas (and points out areas that are working) in premise, plot, structure, characterization, dialogue, setting, point of view, voice, and more, with all commentary sent in letter form (rather than in the manuscript). |
